R. Mark Mifflin of Giffin, Winning, Cohen & Bodewes, P.C., Springfield, was presented with the Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel 2019 Distinguished Member Award. The award was presented during the organization’s 54th Annual Meeting, held June 28, 2019, in Chicago.

Mark Mifflin has distinguished himself throughout his career, both with the IDC and other organizations. President Nahrstadt, remarks “Mark has a long history of service to the IDC. He became a member of the IDC in 1995 and joined the Board of Directors in 2006. He has tirelessly worked to help raise the IDC’s profile in Springfield through his involvement and then leadership of the IDC’s Legislative Committee. In 2012, Mifflin was elected Secretary-Treasurer of the IDC and he served on the Executive Committee for the next five years, ultimately serving as the organization’s president from 2016 to 2017. Mifflin is a three-time recipient of the IDC President’s Award and in 2017 he received the DRI’s prestigious Fred H. Sievert Outstanding Defense Bar Leader Award. Mark is currently serving as the Illinois State Representative to the Defense Research Institute. He is most deserving of the IDC Distinguished Service Award.”

Mr. Mifflin commented: “I am truly humbled to be selected as a Distinguished Member of the IDC. The IDC is the best state defense attorney organization in the country. We all recognize the success of the organization is the result of the ongoing commitment and service of many of the group’s leaders and members. Many people are working very hard to help our members and to improve the civil justice system in Illinois. It is a privilege to represent all of these devoted members and I sincerely thank everyone involved in this great honor.”

Mr. Mifflin has extensive experience in all levels of court work - from state administrative agency through the Illinois Supreme Court. Mark is also a registered lobbyist with the State of Illinois and has a proven track record of working with legislators and administrators at all levels of state government. Mark earned his B.A., with honors from Western Illinois University and his J.D., magna cum laude from Southern Illinois University School of Law. Mark is a former Legislative Staff Intern to the Illinois General Assembly, Clerk for the U.S. District Court for the Central District of Illinois, Clerk for the Illinois Supreme Court, and Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Central District of Illinois. Mark served as the president of the Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel in 2016-2017 and was selected as the recipient of the 2017 Fred H. Sievert Award, presented by DRI, in recognition of exceptional service as a defense bar leader.
